What is a Dermaroller facial?
A Dermaroller is the name of the tool used to complete the facial treatment. It consists of a small barrel which is covered in tiny sterile needles with varying thicknesses for the area of skin I will use it on. A professional Dermaroller treatment will cause a level of trauma to the skin which stimulates new collagen cells in abundance and makes skin look immediately plumper.
How does a Dermaroller facial work?
By creating lots of tiny wounds in the skin, the Dermaroller causes the skin to go through 3 stages of healing:
- Inflammation – releasing growth factors
- Proliferation – creating new collagen cells
- Tissue Remodelling – collagen continues to build and remodel taking place throughout the levels of dermis that the needles have penetrated.
It effectively causes the skin to regenerate itself and therefore repair, starting from the lower dermis layer that was penetrated by the needles and working its way upwards, creating a more youthful, healthier and brighter skin tone, that doesn’t fade.
What can I expect from a Dermaroller treatment?
This treatment is not pain free, however I do apply ample numbing cream to the area before I start. Once I have made the thousands of tiny channels in the skin using the Dermaroller tool, I then flood them with serums containing active ingredients to work at the cellular level which enables the cells of the dermis to heal at their most effective level.
The treatment will take approximately 45 minutes in total.
What can I expect afterwards?
Your skin can often look as though you have sunburn for the first day after the treatment and is therefore very sensitive for the first 24 hours.
The redness should subside after 24 hours, however the skin is still sensitive. I will inform you of all the after-care you need post-treatment before you leave the clinic.
After the process is complete, your skin will be very sun-sensitive for a few days, so I don’t advise doing it just before a holiday.
I would suggest not using make up on the skin or products such as fake tan which may irritate it. I would also avoid hot baths/showers for 24 hours afterwards.
When will I see results?
The results will be immediate, however the full process of regeneration can take between 4-6 weeks to show the full results. Improvements will often continue in the months following as well.
The number of treatments required will vary depending on each patient’s personal issues. I recommend a course of at least 3 and to leave at least 6 weeks between each treatment.
