Understanding IBS: More Than Just a Tummy Ache

IBS is a common disorder affecting the digestive system, impacting over a third of the UK population. It’s believed to stem from miscommunication between the gut and the brain, leading to a range of uncomfortable symptoms. These can include:

  • Constipation, diarrhoea, or alternating between the two.
  • Abdominal pain and cramping.
  • Abnormal bowel habits.
  • Bloating and excessive gas.
  • Mucus in stool.
  • Fatigue and nausea.
  • Backache and bladder symptoms.

IBS can affect anyone at any age, and women are slightly more prone to it.
